Meeting Summary
The Magnolia Hotel
Denver, Colorado
February 24-25, 2010

Sponsored by the Commonwealth Fund, Stanford University, and Kaiser Permanente

Thirty child health professionals attended the first meeting on the dissemination and implementation of evidence based practices in pediatrics. Attendees comprised a diverse of child health leaders including chief medical officers of state health departments, leaders of professional organizations and academic pediatricians. Each attendee was asked to bring a project that was ready for dissemination and implementation. Using a workbook developed for the conference; each attendee used both formal presentations and small group discussions to develop their plans for dissemination and implementation. Presentations at the conference were based around a case study, “The implementation of 21st Century Well Child Care in Kaiser Permanente Colorado. Using the successes and challenges of this project, presenters discussed an overview of dissemination and implementation using the PRISM model developed by Drs Glasgow and Feldstein, the creation of ideas that are readily adoptable, putting your intervention into the field and how to use social networks and the RE-AIM process to facilitate widespread implementation and maintenance of your intervention. Lastly, there was a presentation of practical research and evaluation models that can be used to both evaluate and improve your intervention. Final products of the meeting will include a monograph on dissemination and implementation in child health, and possible adaptation of the workbook into an online teaching tool.
